There is a huge overpopulation problem not only with guinea pigs, but most animals that people keep as pets, breed irresponsibly, and then abandon at the nearest pet store or shelter, and sometimes along the side of the road. For this reason as well as many others, we advocate adopting from a shelter or rescue or rehoming rather than buying your animals from a petstore.
