I am so sorry. ((((((hugs!!!)))))) I too would try asking absolutely everyone. I don't know if the police could or would help, but I'd definitely give them a call as well.

This is an awful thought, but there isn't any way that a cat or other predatory animal could have gotten to them, is there? I don't know if your cages are covered or open-top.
